A slower way to see the world.
Fieldnotes Press began as a simple idea: the ordinary parts of a day, looked at closely enough, are rarely ordinary at all. We publish short essays about gardens, streets, and quiet mornings because those are the places most of us spend our lives without ever really stopping to see them.
Curiosity
We start from questions instead of answers. What is actually happening in this garden bed, on this street, in this half hour of light. Curiosity is the habit of asking one more question before deciding you already know.
Attention
Attention is what turns a passing glance into an actual observation. Our writers slow down long enough to notice detail: the order weeds arrive in, the particular sound of a gate, the color light takes on at seven in the morning.

Simplicity
We keep the writing plain and the subjects small on purpose. A short essay about a walk home does not need an argument or a moral. It only needs to be true to what was actually seen.
Why we keep it this way
Fieldnotes Press stays deliberately small. There is no rush to publish more, faster, or louder. The idea is to give a handful of short, careful pieces room to be read the way they were written: slowly, and with real attention. If a garden, a walk, or a morning can hold a reader's attention for a few minutes, we consider that its own kind of success.
